Introduction
The Zom Dairy Factory, located in Zhazhok village within the Mergasor district of Erbil Governorate, Kurdistan Region, stands as a testament to innovation, sustainability, and community welfare. Under the visionary leadership of Mr. Mala Mustafa Barzani and the recommendation of His Excellency, President Massoud Barzani, this project was established with dual objectives: creating local employment opportunities and boosting national dairy production.

1. Factory Size and Layout
- The Zom Dairy Factory spans an extensive 13,000 square meters of land, meticulously designed to accommodate various facilities.
- Its layout adheres to international health and safety standards, ensuring the well-being of workers and product quality.
2. Technological Advancements
- The factory is equipped with cutting-edge technology, including stainless steel equipment and anti-bacterial flooring.
- These advancements enhance hygiene, minimize waste, and optimize production processes.
3. Collection Stations
- 20 collection stations strategically placed throughout the region facilitate the daily collection of raw milk from local farmers.
- This localized approach reduces transportation distances, benefiting both farmers and the environment.
4. Processing Capacity
- With a remarkable processing capacity of 50 tonnes, the Zom Dairy Factory produces a variety of dairy products.
5. Community Impact
- The factory has generated employment opportunities for 300 individuals, directly benefiting over 2,000 families in the region.
- By creating local jobs and supporting livelihoods, Zom Dairy contributes significantly to the economic infrastructure of the Kurdistan Region.
6. Government Approval and Inauguration
- The foundation stone for the Zom Dairy Factory was laid on June 12, 2020.
- On May 30, 2023, Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, accompanied by Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources Begard Talabani, officially inaugurated Zom Dairy.
- This momentous occasion marked the establishment of the largest dairy factory in the Mergasor district of Erbil Government.
Project Duration and Opening Ceremony
On June 12, 2020, the foundation stone was ceremoniously laid for the Zom Dairy Factory in the Mergasor district of Erbil Governorate, Kurdistan Region. This symbolic event marked the beginning of a transformative project that would redefine the region’s dairy industry. Subsequent years witnessed relentless efforts to construct a state-of-the-art dairy facility, culminating in the official inauguration on May 30, 2023. The esteemed Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, accompanied by Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources Begard Talabani, unveiled Zom Dairy as the largest dairy factory in the district, reflecting cutting-edge technology, community impact, and a commitment to sustainable growth. The Factory exemplifies the harmonious blend of technology, environmental consciousness, and community welfare.
